Pakistan marks its 77th Independence Day with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif among the leaders who promise to improve their nation’s economy. At a flag-raising ceremony in Islamabad, PM Shehbaz said he would labor assiduously to reduce inflationary pressures, power tariffs, and the overall cost of doing business. The Prime Minister explained that Pakistan should prosper and progress if only we put in “effort, integrity, and commitment.” Speaking in a late-night statement on Tuesday, he guaranteed that their future activities on Independence Day 2024 would revolve around reforming and striving harder to improve Pakistan.
Independence Day, President Zardari said, was the ultimate victory of Indian Muslims’ historic struggle for independence and sovereignty. He called on people to transcend their differences and concentrate on unity, calmness, and prosperity. The president also emphasized the need to enforce the rule of law and consolidate democratic institutions in Pakistan as he made it clear that his country supports those living in Indian-occupied Kashmir as well as Palestine. Additionally, Ishaq Dar who is Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister too asserted this year’s slogan as “Resolute for Stability.”
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz attended a flag-hoisting ceremony in Lahore, where she passionately spoke of the immense pride felt when raising Pakistan’s green and white banner aloft. Her poignant reflection touched the gathering on the sacrifices of generations past.
In Sindh, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Governor Kamran Tessori paid respects at Mazar-i-Quaid on Independence Day. He sharply critiqued those who sow division for selfish political gain at the expense of national unity.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur joined the morning’s commemorations at the Peshawar Secretariat. His entourage included Cabinet ministers, the provincial police chief, Secretary, and additional dignitaries. Gandapur’s rousing oration extolled Pakistan’s hard-won freedoms and bright future, stirring patriotism in all who heard his impassioned words.
